The resources we purchased enabled us to host two sessions to date, that expanded children and parent experiences with open air learning. Outdoor skills were demonstrated and practiced with both parents and children, alongside a trained Forest School Teacher.
The resources purchased enabled us to focus on specific skills, which also enabled parents to participate and feel included as they were able to work alongside their child. The campfire was a wonderful experience of inclusion for all, sharing marshmallows and warm drinks. This was a particular enjoyable event.
We have achieved our outcome which was to encourage outdoor activities and a healthy lifestyle. The feedback from parents, were all very positive. “Over all I think its brilliant that children can learn about different aspects in the outdoors. Lots of parents expressed their enjoyment of the day and would continue to do this at home with their children. Places of local interest were provided, to parents, along with website information on ideas and suggestions for outdoor learning.
We intend to link with Pelsall Children’s Centre for outdoor learning within the forest area and nursery playground. We have a long term plan to involve Anne Smith from Walsall Council Green Spaces Team and Mrs Abercrombie has attended a meeting to discuss how we can use Turners Wood, which is currently being developed. Twice weekly children access the forest schools area. Our working partnerships with parents will continue with Head Start Sessions, which involve future nursery parents and children, during the summer holiday.
